Initial Assessment of Food System Biosecurity Threats

Defines food biosecurity and its purpose as well as details threats and responses related to food contamination. Topics include pre-event planning for detection and response, discovery of an abnormal physical characteristic in a food item, reports of unusual illnesses among employees and consumers, observation of suspicious behavior by employees or consumers, occurrence of a security breach or evidence of tampering, receipt of a threat via telephone or mail and what to do when two or more events occur simultaneously.


Food Defense Diagnostic Tool

The Food Industry Center, with funding from the National Center for Food Protection and Defense, has designed a Best Practices in Food Defense Diagnostic Tool. The diagnostic tool will help companies benchmark their current practices and provide a report of their answers as compared to the industry average, industry leader, and the gap between the user and industry leader.


Employees FIRST

Employees FIRST is an FDA initiative that food industry managers can include in their ongoing employee food defense training programs. Educates front-line food industry workers from farm to table about the risk of intentional food contamination and the actions they can take to identify and reduce these risks.
